quintessential country estate
Working alongside the architects and their plans for a sensitive extension to this Grade II Listed period property, we created a romantic English country garden that delights all its occupants, two-legged and four-legged alike.
A combination of formal and informal, structured and ethereal, these different atmospheres provide for the family’s individual needs: Space for the children to play, places for the adults to grow and tend, and plenty of opportunity for everyone to explore.
Permeating the garden are references to the property’s local history in the Kent weald. There are heritage fruit trees planted throughout the estate, and a particularly special feature is the inclusion of a hazel and cobnut plat – once such an important and distinctive feature of the Kent Downs, now sadly significantly reduced.
Deep beds for luxurious planting, plants chosen for scent and wildlife, rainwater harvesting, a woodland walkway and an orchard: this garden hums with life.
