THE BRIEF
To transform this long, sloping garden into a beautiful and practical haven for a young family to play and entertain friends. The client wanted to make the most of the elevated vista from the rear of the house over the garden. They also asked for increased privacy, plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining and space for their two young children to play.
A multi-level, 100% recyclable composite deck was designed to manage a drop of more than a meter from the rear of the house to garden level and provides generous, separate spaces for relaxing, eating and cooking. Views across the garden were retained by through gradual changes in level, wide sweeping steps and rope balustrades.
A large lawn provides plenty of space for the children to play and finally, at the bottom of the garden, a firepit surrounded by reclaimed, natural materials and drought-tolerant planting creates the perfect spot for a sundowner and camping beneath the stars.
Soft grey, blue and lemon-yellow scented flowers and foliage tie the whole garden together beneath the shade of the mature eucalyptus tree.
We thoroughly enjoyed working with this family to turn what was a dangerous and difficult space to access into a fully-functional, beautiful and sustainable garden for them to enjoy year-round, for decades to come.
